Power point presentations are equally likely to wow your listeners or put them to sleep. It’s common in many business settings to expect presenters to use multimedia technology to reinforce information that’s being shared using visual systems like white boards, handouts and Microsoft Powerpoint. But most presentation skills training programs haven’t integrated instruction on effectively using multimedia software into their core instruction on creating business presentations.

The best rule of thumb in creating power point presentations for business purposes is to use common sense and logic. Think about it for a second, wouldn’t a visual presentation that incorporates pictures help convey your points more effectively (as long as they aren’t a distraction)? Also, shouldn’t you limit the amount of reading on your slides to the bare minimum in order to keep your audience’s attention on what you’re saying?

The rules of presentation skills training aren’t much different from the guidance you should follow for creating power point presentations. However, they should be extended to this new format and the tools that are a part of it like transitions, audio clips, video clips, backgrounds, typesetting and external links. Each of these components can be employed to “build your case” when applied logically. For example, if you’re asserting that a new process works quicker than and alternative one, then a graphic of a clock can be used or video footage of the two processes can be inserted. You make the call. The brilliant thing about using MS Powerpoint is that you’re the creative author behind the presentation who isn’t just conveying information; you’re sharing a vision.

The learning curve for developing effective power point presentations isn’t as steep as you may think. We here at MyPresentationSkillsTraining.com make a habit out of smashing preconceived notions of what presentations can be and how difficult they may be.

You’re invited to explore our resources and receive our free newsletter offering presentation skills training by subscribing to our free ezine, “Presentation Pointers,” using the link above. We hope to help unleash the inner artist in you so that your listeners will gain as much as you can possibly offer them and act upon your presentations the way you envision them doing so.

What would you guess would be one of the top three “wish list” skills articulated by business managers, owners and executives? I’ll give you a hint, it’s linked to the top fear expressed by adults. If you guessed that public speaking (and the need for public speaking tips) as being one of the most desired aspects of presentation skills training — and business skills training, in general — then you’re right on the money.

A search for public speaking tips might yield you a host of ideas on gathering your ideas, connecting with your audience and taming the jitters that invariably plague most presenters. However, people in the business world may not benefit as much from general speaking tips as they would from presentation skills training that’s rooted in business scenarios.

Nevertheless, there is a list of generic public speaking tips that can help anyone called upon to address an audience — whether the group is a corporate or non-corporate. These are the 7 pieces of advice that we teach business speakers in organizations of all sizes here at MyPresentationSkillsTraining.com that are created from Dr. John Davis’s 20+ years of public speaking experience.

1. Know your topic well.
2. Limit your points.
3. Illustrate your points.
4. Engage the audience.
5. Personalize the talk.
6. Provide specific advice.
7. Summarize your points.

Each of these steps can be broken into specific action steps and developed for maximum effect. Fortunately, they are part of our powerful presentation skills training courses and materials offered here. Our main self-directed learning course “Create Effective and Electrifying Business Speeches & Talks in No Time Flat” that can boost your effectiveness in impromptu situations and formal gatherings (that range in size from 2 listeners to 2,000 attendees).

Presentation skills training can take many shapes and sizes. Some of the best training programs today incorporate the multimedia capabilities available to trainers that weren’t commonly employed by trainers in the past. One model used nowadays in equipping business professionals in honing their speaking skills is online streaming video.

Streaming presents a unique opportunity for trainers to demonstrate and distribute their training to a wider audience than those who would typically attend live training sessions for presentation skills.

Although live, in-person coaching and training will never be replaced by remote, distributed methods of learning; the convenience and relative affordability of online skills training can outweigh the loss of personal contact.

Other methods of presentation skills training can include teleseminars, ebooks, audio CDs, DVDs and printed training materials. You may find that some trainers and organizations use a combination of the training models mentioned here to effectively instruct business professionals in a variety of speaking settings. In fact, we here at http://MyPresentationSkillsTraining.com employ each of the abovementioned training modalities along with group and individual live trainings.

Investigate the range of options available to you by various providers in the area of presentation skills. Communication is of vital importance at all levels of the corporate structure and in all industries.

There’s no shortage scenarios where good skills are necessary (including those involving communications and presentations). Please sign up for our ezine, “Presentation Pointers,” to learn more about becoming the most effective presenter you can become — quickly and easily.
